Question 1

Everyone says teen acne "goes away on its own." I'm 17 and it hasn't. At what point do I stop waiting?

Accepted Answer

You stopped needing to wait a while ago. "It'll pass" is well-meant but it is not a treatment plan, and acne that is still active at 17 has already had years to resolve on its own. The clinical rule I use: if over-the-counter treatment used correctly for 8–12 weeks hasn't clearly improved things, or if you're getting deep painful lumps, or if it's leaving marks and scars, that's a dermatologist visit — not a "let's see" situation. Waiting has a real cost, because scars are far harder to treat than active acne. Nothing about being 17 makes you too young for proper treatment.

Question 2

I've been washing my face 4-5 times a day and my acne is somehow worse than when I did nothing. Am I doing something wro

Accepted Answer

Yes — washing your face 4–5 times a day can actually make acne worse. Over-washing can strip your skin’s natural oils, cause irritation, and weaken the skin barrier, which may increase redness and breakouts. As a dermatologist, I’d generally recommend washing twice a day — morning and evening — with a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser. Avoid scrubbing or using harsh soaps. If your acne is persistent, painful, or leaving marks/scars, you may need an appropriate acne treatment rather than more cleansing.

Question 3

I'm going to college next year and I'm scared that hostel life (shared bathrooms, bad food, stress) will ruin the progre

Accepted Answer

Hostel life is a skin challenge. Here's your game plan: Keep it simple — 3 products max (cleanser, moisturiser, SPF). Store them in a clean toiletry bag, not on shared bathroom surfaces. Sleep as much as you can — 6 hours minimum. Drink water when you remember. The habits you build now are portable. Your skin doesn't need a fancy bathroom. It needs consistency.

Question 4

I am experiencing acne on my forehead. How can I treat or reduce it naturally and safely without using harsh or harmful

Accepted Answer

Keep it simple 🌿. Gently cleanse twice daily, avoid picking or scrubbing, keep oily hair/products away from your forehead, and shower after sweating. Use a light moisturizer and SPF 30+ sunscreen. Avoid DIY remedies like lemon, toothpaste, or baking soda—they can irritate your skin. If acne is painful or persistent, see a dermatologist.

Question 5

I eat really healthy, exercise, sleep 8 hours, don't touch my face — and still break out constantly. I feel like I'm doi

Accepted Answer

You might be doing everything right and still need a prescription. Some acne is hormonal and won't respond to any lifestyle change or OTC product. This is not a failure. It's genetics and biology. A dermatologist can prescribe things that actually address the hormonal root — spironolactone, adapalene, or in some cases oral treatments. You've done your part. Now it's time for the next tool.
